Have Yourself a Christiansen Christmas is a heartwarming homecoming story with one of my favorite make-believe families. I’ve read every Christiansen book that Susan May Warren has written. Obviously, I enjoy the series and I never grow tired of reading about them. So, as you might imagine, I very much enjoyed catching up this family I love.
Favorite Character
I like this family, so pinpointing one character over another is hard. However, I have two that rate the highest and both are ex-hockey players and neither are Christiansen’s – Jace and Max. I love Jace because he was the tough enforcer for the team and his job was to inflict hurt on the opponents. But outside the rink, he had the biggest heart. One of the most massive hockey players I’ve ever seen in person was Alex Pietrangelo. I see this super great looking Jace with a body like Peitrangelo’s.
Max’s story is the most heartbreaking and has stayed with me the longest. I’ve wept more over him than maybe any other character. I know he’s make-believe, but how can you not love him. So, if hard pressed, I’d say he’s my favorite. I see this fabulous looking, burly but buff, talk, dark, and handsome guy.
Favorite Scene
There’s a scene where the men are having a very heated discussion outside that they think is in private but discover one of them forgot to close the door, so the whole family has just heard a most startling declaration. It’s one of those uncomfortable moments that ends up making you laugh.
I, also, enjoyed the final Owen and Scotty scene. Owen wasn’t my favorite Christiansen, but he’s matured and become a better man. He’s somewhat of a hero in this story, and that’s very satisfying.
Favorite Quote
Max delivers my favorite quote because it sums up where our strength comes from. “We are afraid because we know we’ll crumple. And we might. But that’s when God catches us. Provides. Guides. This journey, even in suffering, can bring us joy when we end up in the arms of the Father.”
Life is hard and tragedies and bad things happen, but if we are in Christ, it all ends well.
Final Thoughts
If you like heart-warming stories that can make you laugh and cry, you’ll find great satisfaction in Have Yourself a Christiansen Christmas. Susan May Warren reminds us what Christmas is all about and as long as we stay focused on the fact Christ brings us hope, we can face whatever life throws at us.
