The Veil by Kelly J. Goshorn is a novella in the Across the Shores collection. Set in Baltimore, this historical romance uses the 1877 railroad strike to bring the hero and heroine together.

What I Liked About The Veil by Kelly J. Goshorn

This is the second book I’ve read by Kelly Goshorn and I was once again impressed by her ability to phrase things using such lovely words. You can feel her heart in her characters and her faith shines through.

Franz Kohler is the best sort of man, whose tenderness will make you feel all swoony. He is a bit misunderstood by his family and readers get to see him bloom when Caroline Wilkins enters his life. Caroline is a bit more guarded and throughout the story you’ll grow more anxious to discover what she’s hiding behind her veil. These two characters are well developed and have a sweet chemistry. You’ll root for them to fall in love, and you’ll feel a great deal of satisfaction at Caroline’s transformation.

What You’ll Like About The Veil by Kelly J. Goshorn

If you are a lover of history, you’ll learn a bit about the railroad strike in 1877. Goshorn is a meticulous researcher and you can be sure while the story is a work of fiction the backdrop is accurate.

The faith message is clear and beautiful without being preachy.

Finally, if you love the strong but teddy bear type heroes, you’ll fall in love with Franz. “You are the one that makes my heart sing,” Franz tells Caroline. He really is adorable.

Final Thoughts

The Veil is the second story in the Across the Shores collection. I haven’t read the other three stories yet, but I’m sure they will be very good. Goshorn has created a sweet, faith-filled story that will leave you feeling satisfied.
