Havoc by Ronie Kendig

October 12, 2023 | Book Reviews

Havoc by Ronie Kendig is one of the most entertaining novels I’ve read in a long time. I liked it so much, I want to read it again, right now.

What I Liked About Havoc by Ronie Kendig

I have not read the original Bread Apart series but if those stories are anything like Havoc, I’ve missed out. I must add them to my TBR pile. I say it all the time about books I review but this time what I’m saying is true—the hero makes this book. Crew Gatlin is everything I’ve ever visualized a Special Forces operator would be like. The moment he stepped on the page, I was hooked. He isn’t the typical Christian fiction hero. Yes, he knows the Lord, but he’s a work in progress. I found that aspect refreshing and believable.

Stunt double Vienna Foxcroft is larger than life. A master in martial arts, she jumps off the pages. She’s smart, funny, a little farther on the Christian Road than Crew, and the perfect match for him. When they’re together, sparks fly.

And I don’t want to leave out Havoc, the loyal Belgian Malinois military working dog. I’m a dog lover, so many of the heart-tugging moments for me involved the dog.

Finally, I thought the story was solid and suspenseful. It made sense and didn’t seem far-fetched. I could see the action happening in real life.

What You’ll Like About Havoc

If you like strong characters who overcome great odds to achieve their goals, you’ll like Havoc. Both Crew and Vienna have faced some grueling life experiences, but they’ve persevered and come out stronger.

There’s lots of action and harrowing moments that will keep you turning the pages. I didn’t want to stop reading and stayed up way too late several nights.

If you love dogs, you’ll enjoy the scenes with Havoc and should close the book with a greater appreciation for working dogs.

Final Thoughts

Kendig adds just the right amount of humor to break the tension and I laughed out loud several times at things Crew said or did. He’s such a great hero. Havoc is a book I’ll read again, and I’m looking forward to the next installment in the new series.

I received an advance read copy for review but I’m absolutely buying the paperback. For more reviews visit my blog.
