The Way You Love Me by Michelle Aleckson is the third novel in the Fox Family series. Aleckson is one of the first Sunrise Publishing authors mentored by Susan May Warren and I’ve really enjoyed reading her stories. This latest is yet another great example of why I think she has a bright writing future.
What I Liked About The Way You Love Me by Michelle Aleckson
The subject matter in this novel is deep. Oliver Fox is a man battling an inner demon that has led him down a path of self-destruction. He’s finally gotten his life together and must return to Deep Haven to gain permanent custody of his daughter. I liked Oliver. I could feel his struggle to be a good father and to make up for his past. And when things exploded all around him, I wanted to cry for him.
I also liked the heroine in this story, Lena Larson. I wanted to cry for her, too, when she finally believes she has gained what she has always hoped for and it proves to be false. She’s a strong person with the kindest heart, who longs to belong. Perhaps all of us can relate to some extent to this desire. I know I can.
The romance between Oliver and Lena is sweet and rekindles over the course of the story. It’s not an instant reconciliation but progresses in what I consider a natural way.
Finally, Kiah, Oliver’s daughter, is adorable. I loved every scene she was in.
What You’ll Like About The Way You Love Me
I think it’s safe to say if you’ve enjoyed the previous Fox family stories, you’ll like this one. I’ve enjoyed them all, but I think this one is my favorite. Maybe because Oliver has struggled and prevailed, but his struggle is a life-long issue so not everything ends all tidy.
If you like reconciliation stories, then you will definitely like this. There are so many layers to Oliver and Lena that are slowly peeled away.
Finally, the faith element is subtle and yet strong. Aleckson isn’t preachy about how Oliver got back on the right track or how Lena finds her own self-worth but the message of God’s love for us is there and is very clear.
Final Thoughts
The Way You Love Me is engrossing and sweet. It will touch your heart and leave you with a deep sense of how the words we speak have the weight to crush or build up.
