One Wrong Move by Dani Pettrey

One Wrong Move by Dani Pettry is a great start for the new Jeopardy Falls series. Loaded with suspense and action, this story kept me turning the page to see what happened next.

What I Liked About One Wrong Move by Dani Pettrey

There were many things that made this story an enjoyable read. One is the setting. I love the Southwest and the northern New Mexico location brought back fond memories. Because I’ve been to the real places in the book, I could imagine the scenery more vividly than in other novels.

I liked the characters. I’m a sucker for reformed bad boys and Christian O’Brady is the best example of someone turning his life around. Andi Forester, his love interest, who has her own sullied reputation that she’s trying to overcome. The other characters in the story are interesting. I’m anxious to read Deckard’s and Harper’s story as well as Riley’s and Greyson’s. Greyson is particularly intriguing.

There are two mysteries to be solved, and both kept me guessing. One involves robbery and murder, which Christian and Andi are tasked to resolve. The other involves a murder that ruined Andi’s career. Deckard and Harper are the chief operators on this case.

What You’ll Like About One Wrong Move

If you’re a Dani Pettrey fan, this novel will not disappoint you. She keeps the suspense going all the way until the end. The action isn’t over the top like in some novels where so much bad happens to the good guys that you stop believing the story. It’s well paced and realistic.

The bad guys are complex. You’ll ask yourself more than once what made them go so wrong. I wish one of the criminals had not been stopped so that he could pop up later. When there is a truly vile villain, sometimes you want him/her to be a thorn in the side for the duration of the series.

Finally, Pettrey has woven a solid faith thread throughout, which isn’t preachy but is definitely there.

Final Thoughts

If the next books are as good as this one, this could be Pettrey’s finest series. I’ve liked all her books, so that’s saying a lot. Whatever, I can’t wait to read the next installment.
