The Summer of You and Me by Denise Hunter is a unique story. I’m not sure I’ve ever read one like it before, which made this a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
What I Liked About The Summer of You and Me by Denise Hunter
The story grabbed me from the start. Widow Maggie Reynolds gets a shock that rocks her world when she’s ready to move on with her life. She’s thrust into a mystery that leads to a search to find the truth about her late husband. Her brother-in-law Josh Reynolds embarks on the journey with her, which leads to a totally unexpected outcome.
Maggie and Josh are sympathetic characters that I cared about and wanted to see get a happy ending. And, it was actually happier than I expected from a contemporary romance. I liked the secondary characters and adored Maggie’s little girl, Zoey. Kids can sometimes be annoying, but Zoey isn’t.
The Summer of You and Me is a story of unrequited love and was so sweet.
What You’ll Like About The Summer of You and Me
I’m sure I don’t need to say it, but I will. If you like Denise Hunter’s stories, you will love this one.
Hunter does a fabulous job with the mystery. I was certain I knew how it was all going to turn out, but I got a surprise. A pleasant surprise and that’s all I’m saying.
The writing is excellent with just the right amount of sadness to go along with the sweet.
Finally, this is truly a clever story.
Final Thoughts
The Summer of You and Me is a standalone novel that will leave you with all the right feels. You’ll finish it thinking it had the best possible ending for Maggie and Josh.
