7 Rules for a Calm Mind in a Chaotic World by Abhijeet Mukherjee is a quick read that offers many insights on how to stay calm in a world designed to make you anxious.
What I Liked About 7 Rules for a Calm Mind in a Chaotic World
I will admit this book pleasantly surprised me. I was concerned I’d find new-age advice I never would want to use. But that wasn’t the case. Overall, I’d say the information and tips are very practical if a person is serious about trying to live a less chaotic life.
Mukherjee doesn’t use a lot of technical terms. His writing is clean and precise. I liked that because so often books like this use terminology that is so hard to understand that you need a dictionary to figure out what the author is trying to say. This book isn’t like that. The references are few because Mukherjee writes based on his own experiences.
Another thing I liked was the size of the font. I know it’s crazy to point that out, but I appreciate authors who make it easier to read their books and font-size matters. He bolded important points that stand out on the page.
What You’ll Like About 7 Rules for a Calm Mind in a Chaotic World
First, the book is relatively short and because of the font-size and spacing, you’ll move through quickly. Mukherjee points out in the beginning that his goal is for you to make a cursory read and then go back and spend time with the points that resonate with you. I would agree that it is a great way to read the book, and I’ll re-read the chapters that made the most sense for my life.
Second, at the end of each chapter, he summarizes the key points. This helps readers to skim quickly for relevant information so you can spend time on the chapters that matter most to you.
Finally, the author comes across as someone who really is trying to help other people. He’s been a successful business owner and could have focused on a how-to that would help a specific audience. Instead, he’s taken a topic he’s wrestled with and discovered helpful tips and techniques that he thinks will benefit others.
Final Thoughts
7 Rules for a Calm Mind in a Chaotic World is a quick read. The author shares personal experiences that make him relatable and adds humility I, as a reader, appreciate when someone is trying to offer guidance. He never comes across as a know-it-all or condescending. For anyone offended by profanity, the author does use a few words but doesn’t take God’s name in vain.
