The Other Side of Goodbye

The Other Side of Goodbye by Heidi McCahan is the first in the new Welcome to Redemption, Alaska series from Sunrise Publishing.

What I Liked About The Other Side of Goodbye by Heidi McCahan

At least at the beginning, this was an adversary to friends to lovers story. Ethan McGuire, the hero, is a bit of a grump, and his grumpy attitude provides more than a few laughable moments. Tisha Binford is more upbeat and determined to win Ethan over with pie.

Both characters have young children who start out as adversaries too. The kids, though, have a lesson to teach the grownups in that they can put aside their differences as only kids can do.

Both characters lost their spouses tragically, which adds tension for Ethan and Tisha as they develop feelings for each other. I’ve not experienced that kind of loss but I can imagine if you lost the love of your life, you would feel you dishonored that love if you moved on.

What You’ll Like About The Other Side of Goodbye

If you enjoy humor mixed in with deep emotions, you’ll enjoy this story. It’s heavy, especially as Tisha struggles to let go of the love she lost. But Ethan is gentle with her, which makes you like him more.

The children added depth and a little conflict, which seemed realistic. Neither were bratty kids, so it was easy for me to understand how they might feel.

The faith element is nice and subtle.

Final Thoughts

This is the first book I’ve read by Heidi McCahan. I liked her writing style and look forward to reading more stories by her. The romance happens really fast in this novel, but I understand the genre and know that’s the nature of it.
