Fatal Pattern by Kate Angelo is the latest installment of The King Legacy series that began last year, and it’s a riveting read.

What I Liked About Fatal Pattern by Kate Angelo

Angelo hit another home run with the second book in the series. Girl Lost may have been a little creepier, but this story has a delicious creep-factor too. Extremely clever. Readers know at least one of the bad guys right from the start, but the psychopath that Tori Crew and Blade St. James are trying to catch was a total surprise. I’m always delighted when the moment hits and I realize who the bad guy is right before the big reveal, and Fatal Pattern delivered.

The main characters work. They’re likeable, have good chemistry, and don’t do stupid things. For me, not doing stupid things is one of the most important rules in romantic suspense.

The suspense is solid throughout. The romance is a slow revelation for the characters, but readers know what Tori and Blade can’t seem to figure out until the end.

Finally, the villains are evil, and one is a total psycho. Nicely done indeed.

What You’ll Like About Fatal Pattern

If you enjoy a suspenseful story that moves at a good pace, then you’ll enjoy this book. There wasn’t anything over the top, so that helps with believability, and Angelo keeps the tension at just the right level to keep you turning the page.

The story, while in part a continuation from Girl Lost, has only minor references to the previous book. You just won’t have some of the backstory, which mostly applies to Stryker’s situation. There’s nothing critical you will miss if you haven’t read the first book.

You may be smarter than me, but if you want to keep guessing until the end about the actual killer, this will satisfy you.

Final Thoughts

Kate Angelo really shines in this series. I’ve read all her romantic suspense books, and this series hits all the suspense buttons. What makes her stories different from the mainstream bestsellers, and in my opinion better, is that they are clean and have a faith element running throughout. I can hardly wait to read the third book.
