Better Watch Out by Natalie Walters is the perfect holiday read with a delightful romance and a touch of suspense. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters.
What I Liked About Better Watch Out by Natalie Walters
While there was suspense, there was a lightheartedness about this story that I’ve not seen in Walters’ previous books. To be sure there are moments of levity in all her stories, but the lightness in this novel is almost always present. I found that refreshing since the story takes place at Christmas.
Francis “Frannie” Frost comes across a bit naïve at the beginning of the book, but she has great character growth as the story progresses. Despite some ditzy moments, she is a woman of substance and it comes through the further you get into the story. Andrew Bishop is an interesting hero, who goes from a bit of a cranky pants to a guy who has one mission—keep Frannie safe.
The suspense popped up in various places during the story that revved up the tension for the characters. While the suspense was integral to the story, the growing romance was prominent throughout.
What You’ll Like About Better Watch Out
If you like a little less intense suspense book, this story will totally suit you. I’d almost label it a cozy suspense.
As the story unfolds, you get to see the heart of the characters, especially Andrew. He started out so annoyed that he had to get the southern girl out of New York, but by the end he didn’t want that gal to leave.
Final Thoughts
I was entertained, laughed, and got into the suspense element. I read before bed and I had a hard time stopping each night. It’s fun and perfect to kick off the Christmas season.
