Cornered: Three Romantic Suspense Novellas by Lynette Eason, Lynn H. Blackburn, and Natalie Walters is the latest collaborative effort by the authors.
What I Liked About Cornered, A Novella Collection
In the Dark by Lynette Eason is the first story. It focuses on Steph Cross, an accountant, who discovers a mysterious notebook in the desk of a co-worker who has died in a suspicious accident. Soon after, Steph’s life is in danger and it’s up to Detective Tate Cooper to keep her alive. There’s a lot of action and a list of possible suspects; however, Eason does a great job of keeping the killer’s motivation hidden until the end.
Downfall by Lynn H. Blackburn follows. This was my favorite of the three. Cassie Quinn is a chef that is terrorized after she takes a job at an exclusive retreat center. Her former boyfriend, Detective Donovan Bledsoe, is assigned to protect her. I liked that the two main characters had a back story because for me it makes the romance more believable. I also liked that the heroine wasn’t too stupid to live and gets herself out of the life-threatening situation. I really didn’t know who the actual bad guy was until near the end, but there were hints.
Perilous Obsession by Natalie Walters is the final story. Her novella focuses on Lahela Young, a schoolteacher. The hero, Briggs Turner is an ex-police officer, who now does search and rescue. This story has a few interesting twists. I did figure it out before the end but there was an unexpected aspect. The romance moved quickly, but Walters lets readers know that the characters have known each other as friends for a while. It wasn’t insta-love.
What You’ll Like About Cornered
If you’ve read the Lake City series by Eason, the Gossamer Falls series by Blackburn, and the SNAP series by Walters, you’ll enjoy these stories. I’ve only read the entire SNAP series, but from reading other comments, it seems there are characters that show up in these novellas that appeared in other novels.
The action is pretty much non-stop in all three books and the authors keep the bad guys’ identities hidden well. You may have suspicions, but you won’t know for sure what the motivations really were until the end.
There is a good faith message in all three novellas, and the romance is sweet and clean.
Final Thoughts
I remained engaged in all three stories. This collection is releasing in November and will make a nice read for anyone seeking a little down time during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.
