Guarding Truth by Kelly Underwood

Guarding Truth by Kelly Underwood is book three in the Elite Guardians: Savannah series from Sunrise Publishing. If you’re a romantic suspense fan, you’ll enjoy this story.

What I Liked About Guarding Truth by Kelly Underwood

The action starts at the beginning in the Hindu Kush where Juliette Montgomery and Caleb Styles are stationed. Then, the story progresses three years and is one harrowing moment after another.

One thing I’ve really enjoyed about this series, which I’ve probably said in the previous book reviews, is that the authors are exploring neurodiversity. This time Underwood has characters that have eidetic memory. I had to read up on it because it’s fascinating. Both Caleb and his niece, Ivy, have eidetic memory and this works against them when the bad guys figure it out.

I liked the main characters including Ivy. I could so relate to her, not because I’m brilliant like she is, but because I remember how hard it is to make friends when you feel out of place. This makes her so sympathetic, and I just wanted to hug her all the time.

What You’ll Like About Guarding Truth

Underwood has peppered this story with a lot of red herrings, so you’ll have a list of possible suspects to consider. There are clues if you pay attention, but they are very subtle.

If you’re into technology, you’ll enjoy this story. Underwood uses drones and hackers to carry out the nefarious activities of the bad guys.

Finally, I didn’t find the story premise preposterous. In this time, we’re living in with all the cybersecurity and evil hackers, this book seemed very realistic. I could see something like this happening.

Final Thoughts

The romance is what I would call a slow burn. You’ll see some characters from previous stories/series, who make cameo appearances in some instances, but who also play more prominent roles. So, I’m hoping these characters will get their own stories in the future. The story keeps you engaged and turning the page. I read it in almost one sitting.
