Harvest Moon by Denise Hunter

August 24, 2022 | Book Reviews

Harvest Moon by Denise Hunter is the final book in the Riverbend Series. I’ve really enjoyed the stories about the Robinson family and have been anxious for Gavin’s story since the beginning. I can say I love him more than ever.

What I Liked About Harvest Moon

First, since Gavin’s introduction in Riverbend Gap, I’ve wanted him to get a happy ending. I’ve felt his struggle since he came on the scene and getting a closer look at the tragedy that turned his life upside down almost made me forget this was a work of fiction.

Second, I found Laurel interesting. Once her backstory is revealed, her personality and behavior make sense, but for me she was harder to like. However, she has great growth that leads to a solid sympathetic character. I wanted her to have a happily ever after too. And the way she handled the tragedy that she and Gavin share made me love her in the end.

Third, I found the premise for the story intriguing as well as heartbreaking. Hunter does an excellent job of conveying how a tragic event can destroy or strengthen us, depending on how we deal with it. And little Emma’s story definitely caused an emotional reaction in me.

What You’ll Like About Harvest Moon

This may be too obvious, but if you liked the first two books, you’ll find this installment equally entertaining. And if family stories are you’re thing, you’ll definitely like this one.

If you like complicated characters that learn and grow throughout, you’ll be satisfied with this story.

Finally, if stories with adorable children make you happy, you’ll love Emma, but she’ll break your heart too.

Final Thoughts

There are some laugh out loud moments but Harvest Moon deals with a serious subject, so don’t expect fluffy. You’ll feel the weight of loss as you read this novel.

I’m sorry to leave Riverbend and the Robinson family. But all good things must come to an end.

I received an ARC through NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing. The opinions I’ve expressed are my own. I have ordered the paperback so I can enjoy this book again and again. For more reviews, visit my blog.
