I knew the day would arrive when I had to say goodbye to my friends Rembrandt, Eve, and Burke, but I tried not to think about it. Alas, the end has come, and Wow! what a great conclusion. If you’ve not read the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone series yet, you need to go out and buy it now. Who knew I’d be a fan of a time traveling detective? I didn’t. But I’m glad the authors chose me for the launch team for the first book. I was hooked from page one, and it’s been a great ride. I’ve loved every story.
Favorite Character
I loved Rembrandt and Eve equally, so I can’t choose one over the other. They were a perfect pair, and if ever two people belonged together these two did. From the start, you knew Rem loved Eve and you knew Eve loved Rem. They faced lots of hurdles and many dark moments, but in Heart of Stone they cross them all. Rembrandt’s growth during this journey was the best part. I enjoyed watching him grow into the man I knew was hidden under a lot of hurt. And Eve got stronger with each book, too.
An added bonus was the secondary characters. They were unique and all of them became important as the story unfolded. These characters caused me a lot of worry. Would they make it or not? You’ll have to read it to find out.
Favorite Scene
Rembrandt’s wit tends to make every scene entertaining, but I’m going with the ending as my favorite scene. So many times it looked like things would not turn out well. But, I think readers will find the conclusion more than satisfactory.
A scene with Art is my second favorite. Rem says, “For a time travel guide, he isn’t exactly five star.” I laughed out loud.
Favorite Quotes
This series has many memorable quotes, and this installment is no exception. There are two that resonate with me. “…I have learned that I can live with the past mistakes much easier than without the blessings of today.” Rem may not have appreciated his life before all his time travel adventures began, but he recognizes what a great life he had. And you know he won’t take it for granted ever again.
The other quote is: “What if it’s not our regrets that make us who we are, but the choices after the regrets?” That’s downright beautiful because we’re all going to make mistakes. We may find ourselves bogged down in what ifs. But, we can forge ahead despite the pain our actions may have caused others and ourselves.
Heart of Stone – Final Thoughts
Time travel wasn’t a top subject to read, but I will reread all six books again and again. If you’re looking for a series that will grab you from page one of book one and keep you guessing all the way to the end, this is the series for you.
This is the most intriguing series I’ve read in a very long time, and I’m sorry the journey is over.
