Here With Me by Mandy Boerma is the latest novel in the Home to Heritage series published by Sunrise Publishing. Boerma’s mentor Tari Faris created the Heritage world, which has been resurrected with new and familiar characters.
What I Liked About Here with Me by Mandy Boerma
The story, in part, is about finding out what a person is really supposed to do with his/her life. David Williams believes his calling is to teach at a Christian school in Costa Rica until a tragedy makes him question his ability to continue. When he returns to Heritage, he runs into his first, and only love, Sadie Hoover. Things get more confusing for him after that. I liked David but I’ll admit Sadie was the one I could empathize with more.
Sadie is a good soul. Tough but tender. She’s raising her best friend/dead husband’s daughter and wants to get things right for Lottie. David broke her heart once and she doesn’t trust him to not do it again. Her priority is Lottie, though, and I admired the sacrifices she was willing to make for the little girl. Even when she was at her hardest, I still liked her.
The story is a second chance romance and while you may want to yell at David to “wake up,” I had to admire his desire to do what he thought God was calling him to do. I could relate to his confusion and concern that what he wanted wasn’t necessarily what God wanted for him.
What You’ll Like About Here with Me
If you like good strong faith messages, you’ll like this story. David’s struggle to ascertain God’s will and Sadie’s struggle to trust God is for her are themes most people will find relatable.
Family and friends play an important role in this story, so if you like to see people rallying around others to offer comfort and support, you’ll be satisfied.
The tension in this story wasn’t over the top but it was there and very realistic. I stayed engaged throughout.
Final Thoughts
Here with Me is a lovely story that will tug at your heartstrings. The little girl is adorable and Boerma does a great job of helping readers experience the confusion and heartache this little girl has endured.
