Hidden Ranch Peril by Michelle Aleckson is an action-packed suspense with a sweet romance. I think this is Aleckson’s first romantic suspense book and she’s done a superb job on it.
What I Liked About Hidden Ranch Peril
I know I sound like a broken record sometimes, but once again it’s the characters that make this book. Talia Knowles is a character with whom I could identify. She’s a bit awkward in social settings and as she reflects on what she sees as her flaws, I could relate with many of the situations that led to this incorrect self-assessment. Noah Landers is a great hero. He lives with a tragedy and sees keeping Talia safe as a way to atone for his past. He’s strong and tortured, which makes him interesting.
There’s a ton of action. Wow! It was like riding a roller-coaster. Before I could catch my breath after one threatening situation, they were in the middle of another. This kept the tension and suspense high. It also made the story move. I never felt like it was dragging at any point. Kudos for that.
As for the mystery, I did guess who the villain was, but other reviewers have mentioned they didn’t guess. I think Aleckson did a fantastic job at not giving away too much about the dastardly killer.
What You’ll Like About Hidden Ranch Peril
If you like a suspenseful story with car chases, shootouts, and kidnappings, you’ll enjoy this book. It really is full of action. It’s a quick read that keeps your interest.
Final Thoughts
This is the third book by I’ve read by Aleckson. The previous books were contemporary romance, so I was curious to see how she would handle the romantic suspense. I think she did a superb job and would buy other books by her in either genre. I received an ARC for review, but I pre-ordered the e-book.
