If the Grid goes down what happens? What will life be like? Lisa Harris gives us a chance to see one possibility in her new book Hunted. This is the second book in the Fallout series, where life is completely disrupted when the Grid crashes. No one knows what happened, but the resourceful people in Shadow Ridge are determined to survive. The townspeople have resorted to simpler ways to live and have learned how important it is to cooperate with your neighbors. Unfortunately, the drastic change hasn’t eliminated bad people and they keep showing up in this off-the-beaten-path west Texas desert town. It’s an intriguing series with plenty of suspense.
What I Liked About Hunted
I enjoyed this story. Harris has done a great job conveying what kind of world we would live in if the Grid did go down for an extended period of time. It’s a bit disconcerting to think about, but if anything Hunted offers reassurance. Yes, we humans can adapt and if we cooperate, we can survive. I’ve never been a prepper, but this series is making me re-evaluate my view. I think I might want to be more prepared if the Grid does go down, and I’ve actually learned about some devices like the rocket stove that would be very handy in the event of a prolonged power outage. The books are entertaining and informative.
I liked the characters. Ava Solomon and Levi McQuaid are good together. They have great chemistry and are believable and likable.
Finally, the bad guys in this installment are human traffickers, and human trafficking is something I’d like to see end. So, this story thread definitely drew me in.
What I Wish Had Been Different About Hunted
This isn’t really a negative. Hunted is a Christian fiction story, so no one is expecting there to be graphic violence. Any violence for the most part is off-screen. However, when it comes to capturing the bad guys, I would like to see them brought down. The capture happens off-scene too, so we don’t get to see them get justice. I think I’d be more satisfied if that had been a part of the story wrap-up.
Who Would Like Hunted?
If you like romantic suspense, you’ll like this book. If you like stories where a major catastrophe has occurred, you’ll like this book. And if you’re like me and want to learn some basics on how to survive if the Grid goes down, this book offers great ideas. And, of course, there is a strong faith element running throughout.
Final Thoughts
I’ve liked all the books in the series so far, but I think Hunted is my favorite. Maybe, it was the characters, but it also made me think about what’s most important in life. Ava sums it up best. “‘But maybe this is what we always should have been doing.’ Taking time to enjoy the quiet moments. Noticing the small, significant things around us instead of only the urgent, often insignificant.”
In our crazy busy world, we’re always on the go and we seek our entertainment and communication through electronic means. But what makes life worthwhile are the relationships we have and the time we spend with the people who matter most. And, in the end this series reminds us that no matter what happens, God’s got it all under control, and we just need to act like we believe it.
Hunted gets five stars.
I received an advance copy for review, but I’ve also purchased the book. You can find more reviews on my blog.
