Lead Every Day by Mark Miller and Randy Gravitt

Lead Every Day by Mark Miller and Randy Gravitt is a new book by two of the top leadership development gurus. The authors say to leaders, “Your legacy isn’t defined by the beginning or the end of your career. It’s what you do in between.” They lay out for readers how you can make the in between count.

What I Liked About Lead Every Day by Mark Miller and Randy Gravitt

Mark Miller is one of my favorite authors for leadership development. He has many years of experience developing leaders for Chick-fil-A and writes in an easy-to-understand manner. He and Gravitt get what makes a great leader and the workplace would be revolutionized if more leaders would follow their advice.

In Lead Every Day, the authors unpack what they call the five uncommon leadership fundamentals:

S-see the future

E-engage and develop others

R-reinvent continuously

V-value results and relationships

E-embody a leader’s heart

The authors give excellent examples to show how important each fundamental is in creating a high-performance team. It’s not just about hiring top talent. Companies must keep the top talent. Miller and Gravitt walk readers through the how-to and the don’t do to create a workplace where people thrive and want to stay.

What You’ll Like About Lead Every Day

If you’re looking for a step-by-step process for unleashing the passion and performance around you, then you’ll find that kind of help in this book. They cover how to build teams, how to build a genuine community, how to develop more leaders, and how to build a dynamic culture.

The authors show you how to increase engagement and emphasize that failing to do this only leads to mediocrity. A leader’s goal is to “create a place where people care more.” But to do that, leaders must provide CARE:

C-correction

A-affirmation

R-responsibility

E-the right environment

Finally, they say leaders should get all the people in the organization to do three things: pursue mastery, own the numbers, and help others win.

Final Thoughts

I really can’t say enough about how beneficial this book is. The workplace would be a much better place if leaders would follow the advice in Lead Every Day.
