Meet Me at the Grand by Lindsay Harrel is a sweet romance set on what seems like an idyllic island off the Michigan shore. This was my first time to read Harrel, and I thoroughly enjoyed the novel.
What I Liked About Meet Me at the Grand by Lindsay Harrel
The setting, while fictional, seemed like a perfect place to live a peaceful life. Granted, I would prefer a warmer climate. Harrel captured the easy feel of a small community where friendship and loyalty were in large quantities.
I liked the hero and the heroine. Dani Sullivan had spunk and a great love for the island where she’d experienced the best times of her life and the worst. I wanted her to be successful. Liam Stone had an outstanding personality and a fierce love for family. They worked together as a couple. It wasn’t insta-love, but the romance did progress quickly, which isn’t always my favorite aspect of romance stories. However, I understand, an author has roughly 70,000 to 85,000 words to make romance happen, so readers don’t expect a long courtship.
My favorite passage was this: “…it was time for Dani to take a leap. And she might fall on her face or end up with a broken heart. Or she could fly. Either was possible. And wasn’t the beauty of life in the surprises, anyway?” Such truth, we don’t know what the future holds, but sometimes the surprises are so beautiful that they are worth the risks.
What You’ll Like About Meet Me at the Grand
This is a Sunrise Publishing novel and if you’re a fan, you know what to expect and you’ll enjoy this story. Harrel took time to develop the characters in the first two chapters, which I liked. Dani and Liam didn’t meet until chapter three. Just hang on and enjoy the setup because once they meet, it’s so much fun.
There is a strong faith element running throughout with truths we sometimes need reminding of, but the story is never preachy.
Finally, if you like small town stories, Meet Me at the Grand will satisfy you.
Final Thoughts
Meet Me at the Grand is the first full-length novel in a six-book series. Susan May Warren wrote a novella to introduce readers to the Island. It isn’t crucial to read the novella first.
This novel is clean, refreshing, and an entertaining read.
