Mistletoe Season: Three Christmas Stories

September 17, 2024 | Book Reviews

Mistletoe Season: Three Christmas Stories is a novella collection by Kathleen Fuller, Pepper Basham, and Sheila Roberts. I’m a Pepper Basham fan, so I was anxious to read her novella, especially since it centered around the Edgewood family.

My Thoughts About Mistletoe Season: Three Christmas Stories

Each story was unique. I hadn’t read anything by Kathleen Fuller or Sheila Roberts before, so it was a good opportunity to check out new authors.

Overall, I’d rate this collection as a four star. For me the weakest story was Return to Mistletoe by Kathleen Fuller. I didn’t feel warm or fuzzy about the hero. The romance didn’t grab me. Finally, I felt there was way more telling than showing. I realize this is one of the disadvantages of a novella. An author has a limited amount of space for their story and sometimes they can only tell information. The other offerings were more engaging.

The Mistletoe Prince by Pepper Basham was my favorite. I’m biased, I’m sure, but she is such a marvelous storyteller and I’ve adored the Edgewoods and the royals of Skymar. This novella was funny, tender, and a nice conclusion to a series I’ve so enjoyed. The Mistletoe Prince had all the feels, laughs, and sweet moments I’ve come to love in Basham’s books. If you’ve not read the series, you’ll still enjoy this novella.

Say No to Mistletoe by Sheila Roberts was a cute story. Told in first person, readers get to know a lot about Hailey Fairchild and how mistletoe has been a portent of doom for her most of her life. I laughed multiple times reading this story and liked both characters. I’m not a huge first-person fan, so I didn’t know if I’d enjoy this novella. I did and would read more stories by Roberts.

Final Thoughts

If you read novella’s regularly, you’ll know the romance happens fast. That’s a novella drawback. But if you’re looking for quick, sweet stories to pass the time during the Christmas season, you won’t go wrong picking up Mistletoe Season.
