Ned by Susan May Warren

Ned by Susan May Warren is the latest installment in the Minnesota Marshalls series and it’s an excellent addition. The story focuses on Ned Marshall and Shae Johnson (Esme Shaw from the Montana Rescue series).

What I Liked About Ned by Susan May Warren

If you read the Montana Rescue series, you may have wondered what happened to Shae. We find out in this new book. She is a strong and courageous woman. I like how she’s survived and thrived. Readers will see she may be a little too over-confident in her abilities to take care of herself, and that lands her in a heap of trouble.

Ned is another strong alpha male with one weakness – Shae. He wants to protect the people he loves and will sacrifice everything to get Shae back safely after she’s kidnapped.

I liked how both Shae and Ned grew during this story, and how they learned to trust each other and God. Warren always has a nice faith message and this one rings very true.

The bad guys were bad, of course. I found the whole gulag storyline intriguing and that’s where most of the action takes place. Warren introduces a mysterious operative using the name Judah Lion (I do love that). I hope she has a plan for Judah in a future story because he might be the York (Montana Marshalls) of this series. We need more Judah.

What You’ll Like About Ned

If you’ve made it this far in the series, you’re probably in for the long haul. Ned is superb and has all the action you loved in the previous books. I tensed up over a few scenes.

There is just right amount of romance, which most readers want to see. Ned and Shae grow into people who are ready to marry and to work at building a successful marriage.

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed this story. There is an excellent setup for the next book in the series. You’ll see a lot of Iris Marshall and Hudson Bly in Ned. I’m looking forward to reading Iris, which releases in August.

I’d recommend reading the series in order because it will be more coherent if you do. However, Ned’s and Shae’s story has a conclusion, so if you are a maverick and read out of order, you’ll be okay with their story.

I received an advance reader copy, but it’s for sure I’ll be adding the paperback to my Susan May Warren collection.  For more reviews, visit my blog.
