One Last Stand by Susan May Warren

One Last Stand by Susan May Warren concludes the Alaska Air One Rescue series but don’t think she tones down the suspense and action. Nope. Our hero, Shep, and heroine, London, face one obstacle after another until the very end.

What I Liked About One Last Stand by Susan May Warren

I’ve really enjoyed this series. I liked all the characters and would be hard-pressed to identify a favorite. Shep is a thinker and rescuer through and through. The kind of guy you’d want to have your back because he just keeps protecting. London is one tough gal, and readers get to see how tough as the story progresses. They could be the case study for opposites attract – contemplative versus impulsive.

I liked the overall plot though I understand nothing about crypto. I was surprised at one point that one of the characters that didn’t seem bad turned out to be a dastardly villain. But isn’t that what makes suspense so delicious – the surprises? Also, I really liked the teamwork in this. These are the kind of people you’d want to work with and call friends because they are there to support each other.

Perhaps, my favorite part was seeing York again. He is my absolute, most favorite hero of all time. I’ve loved him since the moment he sprang onto the pages in the Montana Marshalls series. The second favorite part was seeing Judah Lion again. What a fabulous name. Is Judah a man or an angel? I don’t know but come on Susan May Warren write his story.

I had two places that made me laugh out loud. The first is when Shep describes what they’re about to do as “like calling in the Boy Scouts for a mission to help SEAL Team Six…” But having York on the team is like having a platoon, right? The other scene was when Axel announced after a very intense scene, “I have to say this is the worst engagement party I’ve ever been to.”

What You’ll Like About One Last Stand

If you like non-stop action, then this story is for you. The opening is the only sedate moments in the book.

Another thing you will like is for how the super bad guy is still out there but there’s a twist this time. So very clever.

Finally, you’ll see some of your favorite characters from previous series, not just York and Judah. I enjoy this because I want to know how my old book friends are doing.

Final Thoughts

Once again, Warren has delivered. This is one of my favorite series that she’s written, which does make saying goodbye hard. My hope is we’ll get to see these lovable characters again in the future.
