Playing for Keeps by Andrea Michelle Wood brings readers back to quaint Heritage. This is my first time reading a story by Wood, and she’s done a great job with this novel.
What I Liked About Playing for Keeps by Andrea Michelle Wood
I’m a huge fan of the enemies to lovers trope, and this fits the bill perfectly. Piper Cavaneau and Titus Ford are at odds with each other almost from the start. Note, I said almost. I was anxious to see what would cause friction between them next. But as with all romance novels, the two main characters eventually move past their opposing interactions and find true love.
Both Piper and Titus are looking for a home and a sense of belonging. I could feel their heartaches as they struggled to reach their goals and fit in.
Piper hadn’t had the love she deserved and at first came across a little hard. But as the layers of hurt peeled away, I could see her heart and how she cared deeply for others. Titus had a dream that was shattered, and his struggle to find a new dream felt very real.
What You’ll Like About Playing for Keeps
If you’ve read the other books in the series, you know this is a small-town story, and Wood hits the quirkiness of Heritage right on the head.
You’ll find a solid faith element without being in your face. If you’re a Christian, you’ll appreciate it, and if you’re not, that shouldn’t put you off.
I think you’ll appreciate Piper more and more as the story unfolds because you’ll get to see her true character, which is only to help others be successful.
Final Thoughts
I’ve enjoyed this series and think this story by Wood is a super addition.
