Positively, Penelope by Pepper Basham

Positively, Penelope by Pepper Basham is the second novel featuring the Edgewood family and it is positively entertaining.

What I Liked About Positively, Penelope by Pepper Basham

I love the Edgewoods and how they interact with one another. As in Authentically, Izzy, a good portion of Positively, Penelope is relayed through emails and text messages. I enjoy the witty banter exchanged between Izzy, Luke, and Penelope in this series. Readers get a real feel for the personalities of the characters and how much they all love each other.

Penelope is a modern-day Mary Poppins for sure. She’s vivacious, loving, and always sees the silver lining. She is definitely positive, but that’s one of the things that so endeared her to me. She brought sunshine to a family that desperately needed it.

The hero’s personality is one of my favorite romance tropes – the grumpy fellow hiding a heart of gold. Matt Gray lives up to his name at first. His life is gray except for his daughter Iris. Grumpy Gray as Penelope nicknames him blossoms as the story unfolds and it’s such a beautiful thing to see.

There’s a bit of a mystery in this story. Someone is sabotaging the family’s plans for their theater, The Darling House. And maybe you’ll figure out who, but you won’t know why until the end.

What You’ll Like About Positively, Penelope

If you read Authentically Izzy and enjoyed it, you’ll like this story. Basham has such a great storytelling ability and she once again breaks a leg (using my best theater lingo here).

Family is very important in Positively, Penelope, so if you are partial to that type of story you’ll find this very satisfactory.

There’s plenty of romance, always a little kissing, and a positive faith message. All the things you expect from Pepper Basham.

Final Thoughts

The epistolary stories aren’t for everyone, but even if you wouldn’t normally read that type of story, you really should give Positively, Penelope a try. It’s such a sweet book.

You can read this without having read Authentically, Izzy, but Izzy does play a role in this book and if you read her story first, everything makes sense.

I received an advance reader copy from Thomas Nelson through Netgalley. Of course, I will be adding this to my collection as soon as the paperback is available.
