Riot by Ronie Kendig and JJ Samie Myles is book three in the A Breed Apart Legacy series. Kendig, through Sunrise Publishing, has mentored three authors to bring her Breed Apart world back to life.

What I Liked About Riot by Ronie Kendig and JJ Samie Myles

If you’ve read the first two books, you’ll recognize that Riot is the name of the retired military working dog. I love the dogs and they may be what makes this series so much fun to read. I probably worry more about them than the people. Riot is a bit unpredictable, which added some tension to the story because I never really knew how he would react next.

The story centers around a truly nasty cartel that the hero, Beau “Danger” Maddox, wants to bring to justice. Danger is a Navy SEAL K-9 handler that has suffered both psychological and physical harm at the hands of the cartel. He’s not always easy to like but underneath the harsh exterior is a heart that wants to protect the people he loves.

The heroine, Paisley Reyna wants to fix things and becomes involved in the operation to take down the cartel because she’s suffered at the hands of one of the leaders.

I liked the secondary characters. Even though they played a small role in the story, their personalities really came through and Myles did an excellent job bringing them to life.

What You’ll Like About Riot

You’ll find plenty of action and suspense in Riot. There’s hardly a moment to breath between the harrowing events. The jungle scenes are particularly suspenseful.

If you’re a fan of stories involving military-like operations, then you’ll be satisfied with this story.

Finally, Riot is ultimately a story of forgiveness and redemption that plays out nicely at the end of the book.

Final Thoughts

Some of the characters from the two previous books make brief appearances, but you wouldn’t need to read the books in order to enjoy them. I’d classify this as a standalone story.
