Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham is one of my favorite books of all time. I loved everything about it and just finished reading it for the second time.
What I Liked About Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham
Basham’s latest had the best mix of humor and seriousness that I’ve read in a long time. I could feel the things that caused Katie Campbell’s and Graeme MacKerrow’s heartaches so vividly and then within minutes I’d laugh out loud at something that happened to Katie or something Graeme said.
I could see the lushness of the countryside and feel the soft mist that hovered in the mountains of Mull. I’ve never been to Scotland, but now I want to go there more than ever. The Scots should use this book to promote their country.
Katie and her unfortunate proneness for accidents felt a little too familiar, except I’ve never had a hunky Scot rescue me. Life is so unfair. Graeme was the perfect grumpy hero with a heart of gold who had the most delicious accent and belly-laugh inducing sayings.
Finally, Lachlan, Graeme’s nephew and ward, stole every scene he was in. He was the cutest kid and the character that made me cry. Luckily, he had something pithy to say that lightened the mood.
What You’ll Like About Some Like It Scot
If you’ve ever wanted to visit Scotland, this story will take you there. You’ll be able to see it and to experience the unique Scottish culture.
Some Like It Scot is a story that will inspire you and leave you with a smile. One of the loveliest lines in the story is “love lingers long.” I believe you’ll finish the book and the sweetness of it will linger long, too.
Basham has done a bang-up job with this story and if you’re a fan of her writing, you will not be disappointed.
Final Thoughts
I could re-read this book for the third time right now and enjoy it just as much as I did the first time. I plan to purchase the audiobook so I can listen to it next time. But I believe the paperback will one day have tattered edges that show how much I love this story. I’d give it a million stars if I could.
