The Epic Story of RJ and York by Susan May Warren is actually a trilogy: Out of the Night, I Will Find You, and No Matter the Cost. I can’t express how happy I am to have two of my all-time favorite characters return. If you read the Montana Marshalls series, you’ll recognize Ruby Jane (RJ) Marshall and York Newgate. And as you might imagine, RJ and York are in deep trouble. This series is everything you’d ever want in romantic suspense. Superb storytelling sums it up.
What I Liked About The Epic Story of RJ and York
First and most importantly, York’s return. Of all the stories I’ve read and the heroes I’ve loved, York is absolutely my favorite hero of all time. I love this make-believe man. And, if you’ve read the Montana Marshalls series you’ll know why.
Ruby Jane is the same feisty can’t stay out of trouble gal that readers grew to love in the first series. I totally understand her desire to be more and at the same time want to just shout “Enough Already! You have York!!”
Second, the overall story is very intriguing. Each installment puts the characters in peril as they try to solve the overarching crime. These stories reference a plot that is happening in the Sky King Ranch series, but RJ and York’s story is unique.
Third, the romance has just the right amount of sizzle to help readers feel the character’s passion for one another without going too far. I think Warren is a master at giving us heat while keeping it clean.
What You’ll Like About The Epic Story of RJ and York
If you like action, you’ll be dancing for joy over this one. It’s almost non-stop. The descriptions are vivid, and you’ll feel like you’re a part of every daring escape and every fight scene. This is especially so in Out of the Night and No Matter The Cost.
The second book, I Will Find You has plenty of action, but readers get a chance to catch their breath and enjoy the romance. RJ and York’s story is also an epic love story.
Finally, there’s just enough humor in all three books to lessen the intensity and it always occurs at the best of times.
Final Thoughts
This series is a page turner and you’re not going to want to put any of the books down until you finish. The good news is the novels are shorter, so you can move through them very fast. For those of you who haven’t read the Montana Marshalls (and I ask why not?) or the Sky King Ranch series, you won’t be lost. Yes, you would have more back story, but you won’t be scratching your head wondering what you’ve missed.
This trilogy was so much fun, so full of action, and so fabulously romantic. I wish I could rate it higher than five stars.
I received advance read copies for review, but I can tell you I’ll be purchasing the paperbacks and I will re-read every single one. You can read more reviews on my blog.
