Loyally, Luke by Pepper Basham is better than I ever imagined, and I had high expectations for it. We’ve seen the gruffiest Edgewood in the two previous books, and I’ve loved both. This one, though, is my favorite. You can’t read this story and not wish Luke was your best friend.
What I Liked About Loyally, Luke by Pepper Basham
It’s probably silly of me to say this but the best part about this story is in fact Luke. He’s smart, funny, tender, and kind. The best sort of man who hides all the goodness behind a crusty exterior. He may very well go down as my favorite book boyfriend, ever!!!
The first meeting between Luke and Ellie St. Clare is superbly executed. Luke’s sister Penelope calls it a Hallmark meeting, and it absolutely is. This doesn’t sit well with Luke who is more of a Rambo fan than a sappy love story fan.
Ellie, while at first comes off as a snob, isn’t that at all. She has a good heart, isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty, and wants to make amends for her wild past. She loves the Skymar people and makes it her mission to do what is best for them.
There were so many wonderful moments in this book, but my favorites are between Luke and a little orphan girl named Faye. Oh, my word! I cried twice when these two were interacting. And little Faye may have the best line in the book – “Love is like magic. When you pour it out on someone, it makes wonderful things happen.”
What You’ll Like about Loyally, Luke
If you liked Authentically, Izzy and Positively, Penelope there is absolutely no way you won’t adore Loyally, Luke.
This story has so much heart. It emphasizes how love in all forms can transform everything.
There is a faith element to it that is not at all preachy but adds depth to the story because so much of who Luke is centers on his living out his faith.
You’ll also get an update on Izzy and Penelope.
Final Thoughts
Loyally, Luke has wonderful humor, multiple moments that can’t help but touch the reader, and a beautiful love story. Even more, Basham shows how when someone has a giving heart and unselfish motives a person has the power to change all those around him or her. The world would be a better place if we could all be more like Luke.
